REFUGEE FOOD FESTIVAL LYON
– LYON – ROANNE –
Lyon has already hosted two editions of the Refugee Food Festival. In 2017 and 2018, the festival brought together 11 restaurants and 11 talented refugee chefs, to change our perception around the welcoming of refugees, and to make people discover to flavors from elsewhere. In 2018, Maison Troisgros ***, the famous three-star restaurant, also participated. The chefs Michel and César Troisgros, welcomed chef Mohammad Elkhaldy for a special lunch and dinner menu.
In 2019, the third edition of the Refugee Food Festival in Lyon and Roanne took place from June 13 to 23 in 8 restaurants, with the participation of 9 refugee chefs.
From June 13 to 23, the Refugee Food Festival returned to Lyon for the 3rd year in a row! Throughout the city, 8 restaurants including HEAT welcomed 9 refugee chefs for unprecedented collaborations: lunches, four-handed dinner, brunch or cooking workshop … took you to Syria, Kosovo, Malaysia, Albania, Afghanistan or in the Sahara.
A trip around the world, in order to honor the skills of the guest chefs and let Lyon citizens discover the richness of their culinary and cultural heritage.

From June 13th to 17th in Lyon, as well as June 28th in Ouches, the menu of some of our favorite restaurants has been enriched by menus imagined and prepared by refugee chefs.
On June 28th, La Maison Troisgros, a three-star restaurant, welcomed chef Mohammad Elkhaldy for a special lunch and dinner menu. The Syrian chef brought new flavors to the tasting dishes, in unprecedented collaboration with chef César Troisgros.
These collaborations between restaurants and refugee chefs made hundreds of people discover flavors from elsewhere and helped talented chefs to integrate their host country.
The least we can say is that these two have quickly made the pair! In this project that was important to them, they gave everything! Claire’s practical and dynamic spirit combined with Clara’s energy and enthusiasm did the rest! Joined by Bérénice, supported by the coordinating teams in Paris and UNHCR’s team, they concocted an edition filled with of new collaborations.
